Lesbian and self-proclaimed man hater Valerie Solanas--who earned 15 minutes of fame when she projectile Andy Warhol in 1968 and 15 more when she was portrayed by means of Lili Taylor in the 1996 film I bullet Andy Warhol--is now getting besides another 15, some 12 years after her death, courtesy of San Francisco's George Coates Performance Works. Running from one side April 8 is the world premiere of her play Up Your Ass, the raunchy satire forward sex and gender that Solanas frisked Warhol would produce. Coates discovered the manuscript forward a 1998 visit to Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum and obtained performance rights from Solanas's sister, Judith. It's "a foulmouthed piece of literature filled with unabashed pride and humor," says Coates, who directed the play "word for word" with associate director whirlpool Falconer, a gender illusionist. Between male bashing, comparing tape measure size, and a scat search, the cast of drag kings and women as drag queen also belt on the outside Solanas's words to the concert of partss of well-known pop songs from the mid '60 and '80 karaoke-style. "The greatest in quantity exciting thing is we master to show Solanas in a way she wasn't known--as a satirist, a comedian," says Coates. "This whole notion she was a celebrity stalker isn't accurate."
